La Voix du Nord: "The Grand Prix for political biography goes to Lorraine de Meaux for a book about a great Resistance fighter".
Created in 2007, the Grand prix de la biographie politique is undoubtedly the most prestigious prize awarded at the Salon du livre du Touquet. This year's winner was a biography of the French Resistance fighter Germaine Tillion.
Lorraine de Meaux won the Grand Prix de la Biographie Politique for her book about the French Resistance fighter Germaine Tillion.
The prize, worth 10,000 euros, is awarded by a panel of judges including Dominique Besnehard, Anna Cabana, Arlette Chabot, Anne Lauvergeon and Joseph Macé-Scaron.
This year's three finalists were Christian Destremau for his book Ibn Saoud, seigneur du désert, roi d'Arabie, Hélène Harter for Eisenhower, le chef de guerre devenu président and Lorraine de Meaux, the overall winner, for Germaine Tillion, une certaine idée de la Résistance.
"A totally committed woman
Jury president Anne Méaux praised the winner's " outstanding work as a historian, enabling us to discover the extraordinary and little-known life of a totally committed woman of exceptional temperament and courage ".
Germaine Tiillion (1907-2008), honored in 2015, was a major figure in the French Resistance, active since June 1940. She was also a woman who spanned the twentieth century, opposing totalitarianism on all sides. A commitment that Lorraine de Meaux sums up as follows: " Germaine Tillion is a woman of incredible courage, who made choices with the virtue of knowledge ".
