Jean-Dominique Senard graduated from HEC business school in 1976 with a master's degree in law, before serving as an officer in the 2nd Hussar Regiment.
In 1979, he joined Compagnie française des pétroles (Total Group) in a management control capacity. From 1987 onwards, he held a number of finance management positions within the Saint-Gobain group.
In 2003, Jean-Dominique Senard was appointed CEO of Pechiney, then member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian group Alcan.
In 2005, he became CFO of Michelin. In 2012, he succeeded Michel Rollier as Group Chairman.
In 2018, he and former CFDT General Secretary Nicole Notat submitted a report on the role of business in French society to Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire.
In 2019, Jean-Dominique Senard becomes Chairman of French carmaker Renault. He is also head of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance.
