Every Tuesday, live at 5:45 p.m. and available for replay, Bref Eco joins BFM Lyon to present Lyon Business, Lyon's economic rendez-vous. This week, we welcome Hugues de Pins, HR Director at Van Cleef & Arpels, to talk about the 4th edition of the "De mains en mains" event, designed to promote jewelry among young people.

In this interview, Hugues de Pins looks back at the main idea behind the "De mains en mains" event, organized at Lyon's Intercontinental Hotel from November 23rd to December 1st, which is "to promote the jewellery-making know-how that has existed in France for hundreds of years, and in Lyon in particular, and to encourage vocations among young people ".

During the week, seasoned craftsmen from Van Cleef & Arpels are on hand to pass on their know-how, passion and personal experience to young people in classes from 5ème to seconde, who can learn about the various jewelry trades " with their own hands ".

The idea is to " plant a seed and open the doors to a rather mysterious environment ". Because "De mains en mains" is not just a one-week event. It's actually a four-stage program that stretches over the school year: " We come to the classrooms with our experts in October to make initial contact. In November, it's the workshop we're talking about today. We also have an exhibition of historical and contemporary high jewelry pieces by Van Cleef & Arpels. The third stage is a French language workshop that we offer in class to help young people improve their eloquence, because the fourth stage, in June, is a public restitution of everything they've learned and discovered ".

The aim is then, of course, to encourage young people to take up training in the jewelry industry, and this is possible in Lyon in particular, from the 3rd or final year of secondary school. "In fact, Van Cleef & Arpels takes on a lot of trainees during their studies," says its HR Director.

"The region is a very favorable breeding ground for jewelry workshops.

The jewelry industry in France currently employs 30,000 people in its workshops, and needs 1,000 new recruits a year.

" The region is a very favorable breeding ground for jewelry workshops," says Hugues de Pins. " This is the case for Van Cleef & Arpels, which opened an haute joaillerie workshop seven years ago, and will soon be moving into a brand-new, larger 3,000 m² building on rue Corneille in Lyon, along with two other workshops.
