On Wednesday May 22, Laurence de Charette, deputy managing editor of Le Figaro, was awarded the Saint John Paul II prize in the "Testimony" section for her book À la grâce de Dieu, published in 2023 by Éditions Le Laurier.

After speeches by Guillaume d'Alançon, founder of the Institut pour la Famille en Europe, which has been awarding the prize since 2021, and Monseigneur Rey (bishop of Toulon), Laurence de Charette took the floor to thank the jury for having "chosen [her] book for a prize with such a beautiful name", detailing the genesis of this intimate account of her "encounter" with God.

Laurence de Charette joined Le Figaro in 2001, first as head of the Figaro daily newspaper's society department, then as editor of Figaro.fr. She is currently in charge of the Figaro Group's audiovisual activities, as well as the social networks department.

In addition to Laurence de Charette, the essay prize went to Mgr Livio Melina, former president of the Pontifical Institute John Paul II for Studies on Marriage and the Family (appointed by Benedict XVI), for his book Le discernement dans la vie conjugale. The prize for spiritual doctrine was awarded to Brother Philippe-Marie Margelidon (OP), for his work on Thomistic philosophy, La condition originelle et la tentation d'Adam, le péché originel et sa transmission. Finally, the jury rewarded the film "Une seule chair", directed by Steven and Sabrina Gunnell.

The prize, "born of the desire to highlight the immense pastor and doctor that was Saint John Paul II", is awarded by the Institute for the Family in Europe, a Catholic think-tank, and pays tribute to the Pope who died in 2004 "by aiming to stimulate the writing of works and the realization of works of art intended to promote Catholic doctrine on marriage and the family. [...] A way of being missionary against the tide of the dominant culture of our time".
